Friday Feb 24, 2023
Welcome to episode #38 of the Recover with Carly Podcast.
This week I sat down with Serena Nangia, fat liberation advocate, educator, & host of the podcast The Body Activism Podcast.
On February 10th, NEDA published their response to the new fat phobic and harmful guidelines announced by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and unfortunately they did not express their concerns for these new guidelines, instead they were submissive.
Throughout todays episode Serena shared what these new guidelines are, how they are affecting fat people and people with eating disorders, and how NEDA is causing trauma and extreme harm to these communities. The new guidelines state recommendation for bariatric surgery and the use of other weight loss drugs for children as young as thirteen years old.
NEDA is one of the largest eating disorder organization and they continually cause harm to the fat community. They are not upholding their mission to “prevent eating disorders” because if they were they would know bariatric surgery and the use of weight loss drugs increases the risk of eating disorders.
NEDA - we need you to do better.
To stay up to date on the work that Serena Nangia is doing, you can follow her on Instagram, listen to her podcast, and read her writing on her website. Monday Feb 20, 2023
Welcome to episode #37 and the first ever episode of the Recover with Carly Podcast.
What was once, the PFWC Podcast is now the Recover with Carly Podcast and I could not be more excited about this rebrand.
If you follow me on social media, you have probably noticed that my handle has changed and in today’s episode I share with you why I decided to rebrand, the direction we are hoping to go in, and reminiscing on Paradise Fitness with Carly.
Over the last year or so, I have felt like I had outgrown Paradise Fitness with Carly and felt like rebranding was necessary for me to continue to grow! But i’m going to be honest, I was really fucking scared - Paradise Fitness with Carly has been a huge part of me since 2017 and closing that chapter felt scary but with your support and reassure I came to the conclusion that it was time for a rebrand.
Recover with Carly feels so right. I am so excited to see where we go from here and what Recover with Carly provides each of us.

Thursday Dec 29, 2022
Welcome to episode #36 of @thepfwcpodcast
This week I sat down with Elizabeth Sneed, founder of the Curvy Surfer Girl Community. CSG is a movement and community of women committed to creating body diversity & body positivity in women's surfing.

CSG is empowering individuals to overcome those standards set by society regarding what a surfer looks like. CSG is showing the world that surfers can come in all shapes and sizes while also advocating for inclusivity within the swimsuit, wet suit, and water sports gear.
Elizabeth and I discussed how to navigate this space, tools to help support you through the surf community, and ways too mentally, emotionally, and physically overcome the fears we may have around being vulnerable and trying something new.
Elizabeth shared with us Access Surf, a nonprofit based in Hawaiʻi that focuses on building an inclusive community that empowers individuals with disabilities through accessible beach and water programs. If you are interested in learning more about Access Surf or want to donate, feel free to head to their website.

All I Want for Christmas is Boundaries!

Welcome to episode #35 of @thepfwcpodcast
This week is a solo episode, our first one is quite some time. As you know, the holidays have arrived and with that comes difficult family members, triggering conversations, pressure to engage in disordered eating, etc. Guess what? There are ways we can navigate these difficult situations in a way that prioritizes your mental & emotional well-being.
Boundaries have always been difficult for me, especially since I am a people pleaser but over the last couple of years I have come to understand the importance of boundaries. In today's episode I talk about boundaries & how we can go about setting them.
I also touched on coping skills that can be used when you are feeling disregulated and the importance of eating before and after your holidays meals. I even shared with you a reminder I am constantly saying - you DO NOT need to earn food & you DO NOT need to restrict yourself leading up to and following holidays meals.
The holidays can be an extremely difficult time for people who are grieving the loss of a loved one, someone who is recovering from an eating disorder, someone who is struggling with their relationship with family members, and so much more. I want you to remember that you are so brave & you do not have to navigate these difficult situations alone.
At the beginning of todays episode, I read an excerpt from the book The Strength in Our Scars by Bianca Sparacino and I wanted to share the link with you all in case you were interested in purchasing the book for yourself. I could not recommend it more! If this episode resonates with you, please leave a rating + review! Also, feel free to share today's episode or any other episode with friends and family. Welcome to episode #34 of @thepfwcpodcast
PSA - We had some technical difficulties leading up to recording this episode so we do apologize for the low quality sound. Hopefully it doesn’t affect your listening experience too much! This week I sat down with the gorgeous & empowering reality television star, Sean Taylor. Sean was a contestant on season one of The Circle and is now helping big bellied babes feel hot & find clothing that they can feel confident in.
Sean opened up about her experience on The Circle and some of the harsh realities of being a plus size woman on reality television. Sean shared her experience with body image, how she navigates it every day, and how we can show ourselves and our bodies a little more love and grace.
Sean was able to use her experience on The Circle to empower so many individuals and create a safe space in which people could be feel heard and less alone. I am so thankful for Sean and the conversation we had - she is such a badass!
If there is one thing that Sean and I hope you take away from todays episode it’s that your body does not define your worth and you are deserving of love toward yourself no matter your size. And lastly, let’s remember that just because someone shows up confident online doesn’t mean that they don’t have hard days, so let’s not hold them to that standard!
If you are interested in learning more about what Ilona is doing or joining her community, you can find her on Instagram and Tiktok or if you live in Richmond, Virginia keep an eye out for Sean’s IRL events! If this episode resonates with you, please leave a rating + review!
